Strings, both plain wire and copper-wound, dull over time and can be replaced for widest possible tonal spectra. Oversized tuning pins are often replaced in a stringing to avoid tuning instability. Bass string replacement is also typical, as the copper windings can wear out more noticeably than plain wire.
